✈️ Trieste Airport (TRS) – Recommended Airport
Trieste Airport is the closest and most convenient airport to the symposium venue.
Train
Regional trains (Trenitalia) depart approximately hourly from the airport railway station to Trieste Centrale.
⏱ Travel time: ~30 minutes
Bus
Local bus service runs from outside the terminal to Trieste city centre.
⏱ Travel time: ~50–60 minutes
Taxi / Private Transfer
Door-to-door service available directly from the airport to your hotel or the venue. Fixed rates apply; premium vehicles may cost more.
Trieste Centrale (train/bus station) is within walking distance of the symposium venue.
Alternative Airports
✈️ Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE)
A major international airport with frequent connections.
🚌 IWGGD Organized Bus Transfers Available
Optional direct transfers between Venice Marco Polo Airport and Trieste are organized by IWGGD on selected dates.

Public Transport Options
• Direct bus to Trieste: ~1 h 50 m
• Train (via Venezia Mestre or Venezia S. Lucia): ~2 h 00–2 h 10 m
If arriving on Sunday, 3 May, please allow extra time due to reduced schedules and possible coastal traffic.
✈️ Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) – Slovenia
A possible alternative for some international flights.
⚠️ Please note: There is no direct public transportation from Ljubljana Airport to Trieste.
Recommended options:
• GoOpti shared transfer (direct to Trieste)
• Airport → Ljubljana city centre (bus/shuttle/taxi), then FlixBus to Trieste (prices increase if booked last minute)
⏱ Total travel time: approximately 1.5–2.5 hours depending on connection timing.
Trieste central bus/train station is within walking distance of the venue.
✈️ Treviso Airport (TSF)
A low-cost alternative near Venice.
From Treviso Airport, transfer to Venice or Mestre and continue by train or bus to Trieste.
⏱ Allow approximately 2+ hours total travel time.
Important Travel Notes
• On Sunday, 3 May, some public transport services may operate on reduced schedules.
• We strongly recommend arriving earlier in the day to avoid late-day transfer challenges.
• Booking long-distance buses in advance is advisable, as prices increase closer to departure dates.
