Dr. Ozlem Goker-Alpan is the founder and president of the Lysosomal Disorders Research and Treatment Center (LDRTC), a nonprofit organization established in 2012 that focuses on the study and treatment of Lysosomal Disorders and other rare diseases. Dr. Goker-Alpan earned her medical degree from Marmara University School of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1990. She subsequently completed her training and fellowships in Pediatrics, serving as a Pediatric Chief Resident at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook. Additionally, she pursued further specialization in Clinical and Biochemical Genetics, as well as Lysosomal Storage Disorders, at various prestigious institutions, including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in 1999.
Dr. Goker-Alpan has played a pivotal role in coordinating the NIH Gaucher Clinic. Under her leadership since 2012, LDRTC has completed numerous scientific projects aimed at exploring immune pathways and lysosomal functions to develop innovative diagnostic and monitoring tools. She serves on the advisory boards of several pharmaceutical companies and patient advocacy groups. Dr. Goker-Alpan is deeply committed to educating and training the next generation of healthcare providers in the field of Lysosomal Storage Disorders.
