Pilar Giraldo, MD, PhD, is a Credited University Professor in Hematology, development the Expert Unit for Lysosomal Disorders in the Traslational Research Unit in Miguel Servet University Hospital The group has been Unit 752 of the CIBER for Rare Diseases (CIBERER). At present principal investigator in an excellence research group (Unit of Reference of the Government of Aragón, MECIT: Mechanisms of Chronic Disease and Translational Research
Prof. Giraldo conduct as principal investigator clinical trials in Lysosomal disorders and hematological rare diseases in Quironsalud University Hospital and is the President of the Spanish Gaucher Disease Foundation (FEETEG), an independent collaborative research group composed of biochemists, physicians, geneticians and epidemiologists established in 1996. Her main research interests include epidemiology of rare diseases, the molecular biology of Gaucher disease and other lysosomal disorders, and traslational medicine in lysosomal and related hematological disorders. She is responsible for the Spanish Gaucher disease registry, which is independent of the pharmaceutical industry and contains clinical, biological, genetic and imaging data on more than 456 patients. The registry is associated with a collection of biological samples stored at the Aragón Biobank. The group runs training courses for interested doctors in Lysosomal disorders and laboratory technicians and supervises Master’s and PhD theses. She has published more than 190 articles in peer-review journals, five books about Gaucher disease and edit a digital Journal “en-LISOS” the Spanish-language journal featuring the latest news on lysosomal disorders. https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8791-1901.
